Construction material prices or building material prices are required before beginning any construction project, like home, industry or any business entity. This list of construction material and prices are essential to prepare a budget and determine the number of materials required. Construction materials include cement, fly ash, bricks, steel, sand, binding wires, coarse aggregates, fine aggregates, and blocks.
These building materials are used for different purposes like finishing, protection and decoration. As a result, these construction materials must be selected very carefully to ensure the safety and durability of the structure.
These building materials are available in different sizes, grades and brands, depending upon their functionality and strength.
Building and construction material prices
The prices in 2023 of different construction materials are given below. These materials given below include cement, steel, sand, bricks, coarse aggregates, binding wires and ready-mix concrete.
- TMT Steel: Thermo-Mechanically Treated bars are high-strength bars having a hard outer covering and a soft inner core. Steel has high tensile strength, and compression, and has more strength as compared to concrete. Steel bars are classified based on their strength and are available in Fe 500 grade, Fe 500 D grade and Fe 550 grade. The price of a tonne of 12 mm TMT bar lies between Rs.54,000 to Rs.65,000. The average price of a tonne of 10 mm TMT bar is Rs.30,000. The average rate of one tonne 8 mm TMT bar is Rs.51,000.
- Cement: Cement is the most important element of concrete. It combines with water to form a glue-like substance that binds itself with other building materials and forms a hard and strong structure. Cement is available in different grades like 33 grade OPC, 43 grade OPC, 53 grade OPC cement, Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC), Portland Slag Cement (PSC), and Coloured White Cement etc. The price of a 50 kg cement bag in India varies between Rs.320 to Rs. 400.
- Bricks: Bricks are used for the construction of the building walls. Depending on the requirements, these come in different shapes, sizes, strengths, and colours. The different types of bricks used include unburnt clay bricks, burnt clay bricks, fly ash bricks, concrete bricks, engineering bricks and calcium silicate bricks. The price of red bricks lies between Rs.10 to 10.5. The price of an AAC block is between Rs.48 to 53 for 4 inches, Rs.72 to 75 for 6 inches, Rs.96 to 98 for 8 inches and Rs.108 to 111 for 9 inches.
- Ready-mix concrete: Ready-mix concrete is prepared and dispatched from a central plant, rather than being prepared on the construction site. It is usually done when the workspace at the construction site is limited, and preparing the concrete on the site is difficult. Also, the quality of the mix is better in ready-mix concrete. Different types of ready-mix concrete include transit mixed concrete, shrink mixed concrete and central mixed concrete. The price of ready-mix cement ranges between Rs.3000 to Rs.7500, depending upon the grade of the concrete.
- Coarse aggregates: Coarse aggregates are extracted from rock by exploding and crushing those using machines. These coarse aggregates are mixed with fine aggregates to fill the void between the larger pieces and lock them together. These are of different sizes like 6 mm, 12mm, 20 mm and 40 mm. 6mm, 12 mm and 20 mm aggregates are used to mix with concrete for construction purposes and 40 mm is used for railway tracks. Coarse aggregate prices lie between Rs.60 to Rs.70 per cubic foot.
- TMT binding wires: TMT binding wires are mild steel wires that are used to bind TMT bars together, to provide stability and proper structure to the TMT bars. The commonly used diameter is 0.8 mm, 1 mm and 1.2 mm. 1 tonne of steelwork requires 8-10 kg of steelwork TMT binding price is Rs.40- Rs.50 per kg.
- Sand: Sand consists of small and loose particles of rocks, corals and shells. It is used as a fine aggregate in concrete, used for strengthening and bulking by mixing with other construction materials. Sand is also used as a decorative material like landscaping. It is extracted from the river bed and then cleaned before commercial use. The price of one cft of m sand ranges between Rs.55 to 60. The price of one cft of river sand ranges between Rs.98 to 103.Given above were construction material prices and trends in the current landscape. These prices are expected to increase due to inflation and a rise in the prices of raw materials. Explore our featured products highlighted in the blog for cost-effective construction.
